When someone says, “I am an IT personnel” or “I’m a tech savvy ,” the question people often ask is, what“programming language” are you good at? I think it’s sarcastic. It begs to question the very logic of being an IT professional or a tech enthusiast because, really, is programming all there is in the IT world? The answer is as good as my guess but let’s walk this through, together, for better clarity. There are many aspects of Information Technology (IT) which includes Digital Marketing, Database Management, Networking and a whole lot of it. Knowing that the aforementioned exists, people create the impression that programming is the “BIG THING” in the IT industry. Is it safe to say that programming is the BOSS? I think so! Programming tends to cut across all spheres of life and all fields of life providing long lasting real life solutions. Think about any aspect that has made life much easier in this age and time, all the ideas is seated on programming or a little of it. From fund transfers or mobile pay services, ordering an Uber, shopping on Jumia or Konga, searching for job opportunities on LinkedIn or on Jobber.ng, streaming on Netflix or Youtube, connecting with friends and family on Facebook and the list is endless. It won’t be wrong to say that it is equally programming that introduced these other “guys” in IT. For Instance, it is programming knowledge and skills that gave meaning to Facebook, to Digital Marketing through Facebooks Ads and the Data Manager the opportunity of managing data on Facebook. Suffice it to say, programming is the skeleton on which almost all aspect of IT rest, to showcase its uniqueness and interactive nature. Despite this knowledge, people shy away from programming with the excuse that it’s a […]

Ever wondered why our generation is gradually turning to a passive generation? By passive generation, I mean one that sees “stress – free” as a hobby. It all boils down to the ” Pleasure Principle “. Pleasure principle according to Freudian psychoanalysis is the instructual seeking of pleasure and avoiding of pain in order to satisfy biological and psychological needs Does any word comes to mind with the above definition? Of course, “LAZINESS”. Laziness is the disclination of activity or exertion despite having the ability to act or exert oneself. It is the desire to be idle, to do nothing and resist effort. It is a state of passivity and of letting things as they are. The generality of mankind is lazy. In this civilized world, where networking and gaming becomes not just a hobby but an activity, there is a growing over the degree of passivity especially in youths, who have embedded laziness within our shift to a more sedentary liestyle. The disadvantage of pleasure principle is that it comes with a price tag. It makes one unproductive with the end resulting in bad feeling of oneself, guilty and frustration. In other words, someone may have all the technical knowledge, scientific intellectual and business know – how but when the person chooses laziness, his or her relevance is meaningless. Hence, what distinguishes men of genuine achievement from the rest of us, is not so much but their fullest use of their potentialities. Nobody really knows how smart or talented he/she is until he/she finds incentives to use himself/herself to the fullest and quit laziness. The solution is obvious: Awareness, understanding and recognition of this major problem will help us all contemplate our behaviour change. When next laziness fires at me, I will dare to fire back with enthusiasm. I […]

Physics is prided as one of the important and significant field that finds itself materializing in our everyday lives. With basic understanding of laws like that of gravity, elasticity and motion, we face an incredible realisation of a beautiful world where these laws hold the systems together in one coherent piece. It is a beautiful thing to have a vision of a great, wealthy, self fulfilling, successful and purposeful life but visualisation at it’s best is still less productive than the least of actions. Suffice it to say that, a vision with no direction is a mission already on abortion even before it began. Also quintessential is the alignment of the efforts put into achieving any goal. It is a usual phenomenon to see people busy doing nothing and getting satisfied with the fact that they are hyper-busy with nothing to show for it. You may be wondering, where is all of these headed? Scalar or Vector, which are you? A scalar quantity in its simplest term is one that has magnitude but lacks direction while a vector quantity has both magnitude and direction. In humans, scalar beings know what they want to be/ have or do (magnitude) but keep wishing to win a jackpot or stumble into an already prepared inheritance that looks like the vision they have seen. Vector beings on their own part, in addition to knowing what they want, have a plan, strategy, design to achieve what their desires. They thrive to make improvements, learn new skills, hone the ones they already have and harness their talents and continuously utilise opportunities to become better at what they do. The know the importance of doing the little things that draw them closer to their dreams daily. So are you a scalar or vector quantity? Decide now and […]

Educated people have higher wages and lower employment rates, and better educated countries grow faster and innovative more than other countries but going to college is not enough” – Alex Tabarrok. Unemployment occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find one. It can also be defined as situations were an adult is not able to get a job. Unemployment is one of the many challenges facing Nigeria as a nation. The rate is quite high especially among graduates. From year to year its growth is sky rocketing and increases in a geometric progression. “The nation’s unemployment rate has in the second quarter (Q2) of 2015 risen to 8.2 per cent from the 7.5 per cent rate which was recorded in the preceding quarter. This brings to three the consecutive rise in unemployment rate in the country since the third quarter of 2014. Accordingly, there were a total of 19.6 million people between ages 15 – 65 either unemployed or underemployed in the labor force in Q2 2015, compared to 17.7 million in Q1 2015,”( National Bureau of Statistics). The problem of unemployment which leads to poverty in Nigeria has transformed from obscurity in recent times to the most threatening national plagues. This constitutes an obstacle to sustainable development as it limits improvement in living standards. And also output and social cohesion which are key factors for achieving inclusive growth. To further buttress the consequences of this menace, a young Nigerian graduate in Katsina town had in 2010 committed suicide over his prolonged period of unemployment. While a group of unemployed graduates in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State recently faced trial for “organizing unlawful protest” against their unemployed status. Alas, how […]
